The twenty-four nominations for the Moir Stakes will have to be culled back to thirteen runners when the final field in released on Wednesday.

The Peter and Paul Snowden trained Group 1 winner Russian Revolution is guaranteed a start with a rating of 109 as is the Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign rated 104.

Other Group 1 winners to be among the Moir Stakes nominations are Japonisme (105), Malaguerra (112), Sheidel (110) and Terravista (112).

Also nominated for the 1000m scamper around The Valley is Joe Pride’s speedy Ball Of Muscle and Robert Smerdon’s consistent sprinter Ability who has worked his way up through the classes with wins at his last four starts, including a last start win the Group 3 $150,000 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Sandown on August 6.

Russian Revolution rounded off his Moir Stakes preparation with a trip to The Valley this morning for a gallop and another look at the tricky circuit following his last start win there in the Group 2 $200,000 Mitty’s McEwen Stakes (1000m) on September 9.

“Today was just a similar sort of routine to what we did the other week,” Paul Snowden told AAP.

“It was just a nice, cruisy breeze around. He wasn’t asked to do much but it was mainly just getting himself prepared for Friday night.

“It just tops him off.

“He handles the track super. He loves it.”

“He’s a talented horse and he won accordingly the other day.”

“Class prevailed. But he’s going to have to be on his game again on Friday night. A lovely barrier would certainly enhance his chances a lot.

“He’s a pretty good colt and it would be lovely if he could get another Group One.”

Russian Revolution showed plenty of ability as a two year old and carried that form into his three year old season with wins in the Group 3 $150,000 Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield and in the Group 2 $300,000 Roman Consul (1200m) at Randwick during the 2016 Spring Carnival.

The Snitzel colt then rose to the next level during the 2017 Sydney Autumn Carnival with a win in the Group 1 $700,000 Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill.

The Gary Portelli trained filly She Will Reign will be having her first run back since winning the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill in March and after the Moir Stakes will head baack to Sydney for the $10m The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 14.
