The Memsie Stakes is always packed full of quality and that will be the case again in 2017 as the Group 1 event has drawn a field that is packed full of genuine stars.

It is The Goodwood winner Vega Magic that is the clear favourite to claim another Group 1 victory, but he won’t have it his own way against the likes of Black Heart Bart, Le Romain, Hey Doc, Humidor, I Am A Star and Yankee Rose.

The Memsie Stakes isn’t the only highlight on the card at Caulfield this afternoon and there are a host of other black-type races.

The McNeil Stakes, Ladbrokes Cockram Stakes, The Heath 1100 and the Heatherlie Stakes are all packed full of quality and will be key form references for the rest of the 2017 Spring Racing Carnival.

Race 1 (12:25pm) – $120,000 Sheen Group Plate Results

Watchmespin finished over the top of her rivals to record an upset win in the Sheen Group Plate at Caulfield this afternoon.

Judy In Disguise took up the running with Justice Glory in her tailwind and they looked as though they would fight out the finish, but Hard Faith and Watchmespin loomed on the outside late.

Watchmespin showed an impressive turn-of-foot to claim the victory and trainer Danny O’Brien believes that the promising galloper will be even better once she gets out to a longer trip.

Race 2 (1:00pm) – $120,000 Chandler Macleod Plate Results

Oregon’s Day held-off a fast-finishing Swampland to win the Chandler Macleod Plate at Caulfield this afternoon.

Mark Zahra gave Oregon’s Day a lovely run in transit and she responded well when she was asked for an extra effort.

Swampland charged home late, but Oregon’s Day was able to hold-on to record the first race win of her 2017 Spring Racing Carnival.

Trainer Mick Price said that Oregon’s Day will have her next race start in the Let’s Elope Stakes at Flemington in a fortnight.

Mr Sneaky defied a late drift to record an impressive win in the 2017 HockingStuart Plate at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Theanswermyfriend hit the front at the top of the straight and looked as though he would be tough to catch, but Mr Sneaky emerged from the pack to finish over the top of his rival and run away from the rest of the field.

Trainer Anthony Freedman said that races like the Bobbie Lewis Quality at Flemington and the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield are on the agenda for My Sneaky.

Race 4 (2:15pm) – $150,000 Group 3 McNeil Stakes Results

Merchant Navy made it four wins from as many race starts with an impressive victory in the 2017 McNeil Stakes at Caulfield this afternoon.

Mark Zahra settled Merchant Navy towards the tail of the field in the early stages of the race, but he improved nicely coming around the turn.

Booker hit the front and was gallant in defeat, but Merchant Navy was far too good in the final stages and finished over the top of his rivals to stamp himself as a genuine Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas contender.

Savanna Amour got her nose down at the right time to win the 2017 Ladbrokes Cockram Stakes at Caulfield this afternoon.

Savanna Amour, Flying Jess and Written Era were spread right across the track and any horse could have won the race at the 50 metre mark.

Flying Jess looked as though she would finish over the top of her rivals, but jockey Ben Melham timed his run to perfection ton Savanna Amour to claim victory.

Race 6 (3:30pm) – $150,000 Group 3 The Heath 1100 Results

Voodoo Lad showed an explosive turn-of-foot to return to the races with a win in The Heath 1100 at Caulfield this afternoon.

Runson took up the running from Sheidel and they ensured that the race would be run at a genuine tempo, which set-up the race nicely for Voodoo Lad.

Voodoo Lad responded extremely well when asked for an extra effort by Brad Rawiller and he effortlessly picked up his rivals.

  • 3rd – Crystal Dreamer

Race 7 (4:10pm) – $1,000,000 Group 1 Memsie Stakes Results

Vega Magic led from start to finish to record a dominant win in the 2017 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield this afternoon.

Craig Williams wasted no time taking up the running on Vega Magic and he was always in control of the Group 1 affair.

Vega Magic kicked clear at the top of the straight and there was never any doubt that he would score another Group 1, despite a strong effort from Black Heart Bart.

  • 3rd – Tosen Stardom

Race 8 (4:50pm) – $100,000 Heatherlie Stakes Results

Hell Or Highwater continued her winning run with a strong performance in the 2017 Heatherlie Stakes at Caulfield this afternoon.

Assign took up the running in the early stages of the Heatherlie Stakes and Dean Yendall was happy to sit in second place just outside the leader.

Hell Or Highwater quickly pulled clear from Assign at the top of the straight and she never looked like losing the Listed affair.

  • 3rd – Amelie’s Star

Race 9 (5:25pm) – $120,000 Comcater Handicap  Results

Grande Rosso scored a narrow victory over Chocolate Holic in a thrilling Comcater Handicap at Caulfield this afternoon.

The duo were locked in a ding-dong battle for the majority of the straight, but Grande Rosso was able to get his nose down at the right time to return to winning form.

David Hayes confirmed that the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes would be the next race start for Grande Rosso.
