2017 Ipswich Cup Day will take place north of the border on Saturday and three black type features highlight an outstanding day’s racing.

Strong fields have been confirmed for all nine races on 2017 Ipswich Cup Day, but we have analysed every runner in each, in order to help you find a winner.

The action on 2017 Ipswich Cup Day will get underway with the running of the Bundaberg Rum BM75 (1350m) at 11:40am and will conclude with the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m) at 4:33pm.

Race 1 (11:40am) Bundaberg Rum BM75 (1350m)

A smart and capacity field has been confirmed for Race 1 on Ipswich Cup Day, including topweight Marksfield (barrier 17). The horse will need plenty of luck in transit, but stormed home to win at Toowoomba first-up and should carry plenty of benefit into this race. Barnsley (barrier 10) also carries winning form into the race and should be able to find a position behind the early pace from barrier 10, while Eljetem (barrier 3) has trialled well in the lead-up to the race and should be prominent from an inside draw. The Barry Baldwin-trained Fleur D’Orage (barrier 9) is yet to show much this time but is treated well at the weights on Saturday, while Say You Love Me (barrier 14) should carry plenty of benefit into the race.

Race 2 (12:10pm) Ray White Ipswich BM75 (1350m)

Fifteen horses remain in the field for Race 2 on Ipswich Cup Day following scratching and it is an open event from a betting perspective. Group 1 placegetter Cornrow (barrier 11) will get some weight relief with apprentice hoop Ruby Ride aboard. The horse is a winner at the course previously and should be ready to peak third-up on Saturday. Kiwi raider William Wallace (barrier 10) should find a position behind the early pace from barrier 10 and will be partnered by Tegan Harrison, while Light Shows (barrier 5) has drawn ideally into this field, has been strong and consistent this preparation and will carry only 54kgs. Seeking Asylum (barrier 12) will also carry a light weight and has the notable advantage of Jeff Lloyd in the saddle.

Tip: No. 6 William Wallace ($3.80)

Race 3 (12:42pm) XXXX Gold Ipswich Mile Class 6 Plate (1666m)

Fourteen milers will take to the barriers at Ipswich for Race 3 on Saturday, including last start winner Lothario (barrier 9). The four-year-old has steadily built to the task this time in and had clearly reached peak fitness by the time he beat a classy field at the Gold Coast last time out. Snapper (barrier 3) was unlucky to finish a close second last time out and should be a lot closer from an inside draw, while there is cases to be made for Steamin’ (barrier 4) Call The Captain (barrier 2) and the resuming Manndawi (barrier 10), who’s class is sure to count for plenty amongst this field and who will be partnered by in-form hoop Jim Byrne.

Tip: No. 10 Manndawi – Each Way ($26/$7.20)

Race 4 (1:20pm) Sirromet Bundamba Plate (1100m)

Fifteen two-year-olds have been confirmed in the final field for the Sirromet Bundamba Plate. Consistent performer Acceptile (barrier 110) has failed to finish outside the first three through seven career starts, but will need luck from barrier 11. Wudang Blade (barrier 15) is another horse that will need luck from a wide draw, but is also extremely consistent and has the class to be right in the finish of this race. Godolphin colt Revenire (barrier 1) was an impressive winner at Gosford on debut and after finishing mid-pack at Rosehill Gardens last time out, is probably the horse to beat amongst this company.

Tip: No. 6 Revernire ($5.50)

Race 5 (1:57pm) Schweppes TL Cooney Three-Years-Old Handicap (1100m)

A capacity field of three-year-olds will contest Race 5 on 2017 Ipswich Cup Day, including Sir Donald (barrier 8). Sir Donald returned to the races for a smart win on the Gold Coast and repeated that effort over 1100m, also on the Gold Coast, last time out. Plenty of hype surrounded the early racing career of Tiyatrolani (barrier 1) and while she has failed to live up to that mark, could find her race at Ipswich on Saturday. stable mate Prue’s Angel (barrier 19) is yet to taste anything but success through her short career so far, but faces a step up in class and will require luck from her awkward draw. Jest Excel (barrier 12) is also a live chance with no weight on her back and in current winning form.

Tip: No. 4 Tiyatrolani ($5)

Race 6 (2:37pm) Queensland Times Provincial Stayers Cup (2150m)

A smart field of stayers will take to the barriers for Race 6 and there is a case to be made for close to half the group. I’m Belucci (barrier 13) finished ninth in much tougher company at Doomben last weekend and will enjoy a step back in class, while Allzin (barrier 17) is seeking a fourth-consecutive race win and will need luck from the extreme outside. War Baby (barrier 14) and Manny (barrier 11) have both built nicely into the race and are each light weight chances, while Brigadier (barrier 5) is drawn ideally, weighted well and will carry winning form into the race after storming home to salute at Casterton last time out on May 21^st.

Tip: No. 1 I’m Belucci – Each Way ($21/$5.80)

Race 7 (3:17pm) Listed Ipswich Cup (2150m)

The feature race has drawn an outstanding field of stayers, including several who performed admirably through the major distance races of the Brisbane Winter Carnival. Benzini (barrier 10) has been charged with carrying the 60kgs topweight, but is arguably the class horse of the Ipswich Cup field and will prove tough to beat. Leading local Jumbo Prince (barrier 4) went amiss last start, but has also been excellent at black type level this season and could receive the run of the race from an inside draw and with Jeff Lloyd in the saddle. Sort After (barrier 11) has steadily worked to the task this time in an appears ready to peak in the Ipswich Cup, while Kaiser Franz (barrier 1) has beaten much of this field during his current campaign. Tessastock (barrier 3) will make her first appearance in Queensland in the race, is bred to get the trip and has conditions to suit in the Ipswich Cup.

Tip: No. 1 Benzini – Each Way ($5/$2)

Race 8 (3:57pm) Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m)

An exciting field of sprinters will take to the barriers for the Listed Eye Liner Stakes, including The Virginian (barrier 2). The Virginian was unlucky to miss a run in the Stradbroke Handicap last weekend and is arguably the horse to beat on Saturday, given his strong results at black type level this time. Godolphin will launch a two pronged attack in the form of Federal (barrier 13) and Handfast (barrier 16) and both are capable of winning this race on their day. Shiraz (barrier 6) will carry 59kgs, but is Group 1 placed and another horse who’s class could count for plenty, while Snippets Land (barrier 19) will need luck from the extremely outside, but has steadily built to the task and will enjoy a step back in company.

Tip: No. 6 The Virginian – Each Way ($6/$2.55)

Race 9 (4:33pm) Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m)

A capacity field of sixteen will line up for the final race on 2017 Ipswich Cup Day; the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic. I Am Zelady (barrier 13) has performed well amongst strong field that this, this time in and should prove tough to beat. Kinshachi (barrier 3) is drawn to get a terrific run in the race and will enjoy a step back in class, while Queen Of Wands carries winning form into the race and should be right in the finish of the race with only 54kgs in tow. Madame De Ban (barrier 6) will contest the race first-up, but was excellent last campaign and is capable of a strong performance. Maternal (barrier 18) went amiss last time out and will need luck on Saturday, but is one of the class horses in this Gai Waterhouse Classic field.
