2017 Grafton Cup Day has drawn talented fields to eight races this afternoon, highlighted by the highly sought-after feature race, contested over 2350m at Listed level.

The 2017 Grafton Cup Day action is set to get underway with the running of the Sky Thoroughbred Central Mother’s Gift (1400m) at 12:20pm, while the feature race will be run and won at 4:05pm.

Favourite backers were off to a bad start on Grafton Cup Day when the $2.50 hot pot Prada Miss was beaten in the first race on the card.

Jockey Ben Looker gave the Stirling Osland trained Prada Miss the run of the race in fourth position on the fence after jumping from barrier two but the Northern Meteor filly was unable to run down the $5.50 second favourite Shoreline and finished in the runner’s up stall.

Matthew Paget had no hesitation is taking Shoreline to the front after the mare was quick out of the barriers and then rated her perfectly in front to score a comfortable all the way win.

Explosive One ($9) with Matthew McGuen in the saddle ran home from back in the field to fill third spot.

Race 2 (12:55pm) The Bidfood Class 1 Handicap Results

Punters were back on top after the second race of the day with $2.40 favourite Snapchat Girl storming home to collect the major prize for trainer Les Kelly and jockey Jason Taylor.

Snapchat Girl was always at the top of the betting and had too many guns for runner up, $21 outsider Follow Through, and the fast finishing Clever Blaze ($4).

Snapchat Girl made it two wins on the trot following her maiden win at the Gold Coast last start and Kelly is keen to pick out a race on Magic Millions Day at the Gold Coast in January for the two year old filly who was able to beat the older horses today.

Race 3 (1:35pm) PSA Defending Local Jobs BM65 Handicap Results

$201 roughie Chilli Zaim has flown home in the dying stages to win Race 3 on 2017 Grafton Cup Day.

Chilli Zaim heralded virtually no interest in betting markets for the race and drifted from opening odds of $51 to his $201 quote, but took an ideal position in transit after jumping well this afternoon.

Suited to the tempo set by Clang’s Victory, Elite Dubleo and Art’s Got A Gun, the Za-Im gelding was produced in the final 200m by jockey Miki Nakao and mustered an outstanding turn of foot to beat Art’s Got A Gun on the line.

Race 4 (2:10pm) Northern Rivers Concrete Plumbing Big Maiden Handicap Results

Metallic Moon has completed a perfectly-timed sprint to win the Northern Rivers Concrete Pumping Big Maiden this afternoon.

One of two clear favourites in the field, Metallic Moon took a position in transit behind the early pace of Ritchford, Warface and Sepoy’s Choice, but was offered a gap between runners when the field straightened.

Skipping clear with 300m to run, the Snitzel gelding maintained to the line well to beat fellow favourite Dreamscope by half a length.

Race 5 (2:50pm) NBN Springboard To Fame 2YO Plate Results

Victorem has justified his clear race favouritism with a dominant performance in the Springboard To Fame 2YO Plate this afternoon.

Jockey Ben Looker elected to take a position off the early pace with Victorem as Absolutelypositively, Runaway and Imperial Eagle traded early blows on pace and gave the juvenile plenty of time to balance in the final straight, before asking for an extra effort.

The hoop was only a passenger as Victorem mustered a superior turn of foot to win the race by more than a length from Runaway.

Race 6 (3:25pm) Earthmoving Equipment Australia Association Plate Results

Brisbane horse Havasay appeared to have a class edge on his rivals in Race 6 at Grafton this afternoon and stamped his dominance with a comfortable three length win over All But Gone.

The Rothesay gelding has produced a number of credible performances amongst far tougher company in seasons gone by and after settling towards the tail of the field this afternoon, summoned his superior turn of foot to easily overcome his rivals.

All But Gone was also impressive after working through the field late to finish second, while Jonny Ge ran on to round out the minors.

Race 7 (4:05pm) Listed Grafton Cup Results

Supply And Demand has continued his outstanding run of form with another classy win in this afternoon’s featured Grafton Cup.

The Sebring gelding strode forward from the barriers and immediately took up the running; leading Montauk, War Baby and Danjeu past the post the first time.

Barely challenged on pace in transit, Supply And Demand appeared to be falling off the pace when the field straightened, but produced a strong kick to finish off the race ahead of a fast-finishing Get On The Grange; Montauk boxing on bravely for third.

Race 8 (4:40pm) Sir James Kirby Handicap Results

Johnny Roo Boy has ducked his head at the right moment to win the Sir James Kirby Quality; the final race on 2017 Grafton Cup Day.

Jason Taylor pressed the six-year-old forward from the gates and took a handy position on the heels of early leader Plateau Gold, who ensured that the race would be run at a genuine tempo.

Pulling clear in the final straight, the Henny Hughes gelding actually dropped behind a fast-finishing Lady Jetsetter in the final 50, but lunged at the right moment to be crowned the race winner.
