Winx showed her true champion qualities to win the Warwick Stakes after missing the start badly and punters are hopeful that she won’t have the same issues in the Chelmsford Stakes this afternoon.

It is not all about Winx at Royal Randwick this afternoon and there are a number of other big races as we work into the 2017 Spring Racing Carnival proper.

The Concorde Stakes, Furious Stakes and Tramway Stakes are all packed full of quality and outside of the Chelmsford Stakes there is plenty of value to be found in all the major races.

2017 Warwick Stakes Day Results

Race 1 (12:10pm) – $100,000 ANZ Bloodstock News Handicap Results

Super Ex led from start to finish to record an impressive win in the 2017 ANZ Bloodstock News Handicap at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Hugh Bowman wasted no time taking control of the race and Super Ex travelled like the winner throughout the contest.

Super Ex kicked clear at the top of the straight and never looked like being beaten, but Merovee caught the line late with strong final sectionals.

Up ‘N’ Rolling justified his short price to take out the National Jockey’s Trust Handicap at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Kerrin McEvoy settled Up ‘N’ Rolling in the second half of the field in the early stages of the race and it couldn’t have worked out better for him when a big gap opened up for the odds-on favourite at the top of the straight.

Wahng Wah kept Up ‘N’ Rolling honest in the straight, but he was unable to get in-front of the Chris Waller-trained galloper.

Race 3 (1:20pm) – $100,000 Jockeys Trust Mile Results

Embley beat More To Gain by the narrowest margin to return to winning form in the 2017 Jockeys Trust Mile at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Kerrin McEvoy took Embley straight to the front in the early stages of the race and he kicked clear at the top of the straight.

More To Gain dove at Embley late and got his nose in front in the shadows of the post, but Embley got the bob in to score a very tight win.

Race 4 (2:00pm) – $60,000 Highway Handicap Results

My Tagoson made it back-to-back wins in the Highway Handicap with another impressive performance at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Super Star Bob flew down the outside and looked like the winner at the 200 meters, but Hugh Bowman plotted a perfect path on My Tagoson to get him to the inside.

My Tagoson exploded when he found clear running and he ran away from his rivals to score a nice victory.

Redzel produced a typically tough performance to win the 2017 Concorde Stakes at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Kerrin McEvoy went straight to the front on Redzel, while Spieth settled at the tail of the field.

Redzel looked like a sitting duck at the top of the straight, but he kept finding and was running away from his rivals in the final 100 metres.

It was a repeat of the Silver Shadow Stakes as Formality held-off Champagne Cuddles in the 2017 Furious Stakes at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Formality settled just behind the leader Joy Filly Ours in the early stages of the race and that proved to be the difference as Champagne Cuddles was forced to settle at the tail of the field.

Champagne Cuddles charged at Formality late, but the Lindsay Park-trained filly was able to hold-on to record another black-type win.

Race 7 (3:50pm) – $250,000 Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes Results

Winx ran down Red Excitement to record a thrilling victory in the 2017 Chelmsford Stakes at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Red Excitement took up the running in the early stages of the race and heading into the straight she had a six length lead on the rest of the field, with Hugh Bowman pushing the button on Winx a long way from home.

It took Winx the entire straight to run down Red Excitement, but she did just that to take her incredible winning streak to 19.

  • 3rd – Chocante

Race 8 (4:30pm) – $200,000 Group 2 Tramway Stakes Results

Happy Clapper returned to the races with a fast-finishing victory in the 2017 Tramway Stakes at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Tom Melbourne hit the front at the 250 metre mark and was travelling like the winner, but Happy Clapper showed an impressive turn-of-foot to finish over the top of his rivals.

Josh Adams was given the opportunity to ride Happy Clapper in the Tramway Stakes and he was emotional to record a black-type race win.

Race 9 (5:10pm) – $100,000 Schweppes Handicap Results

Washington Heights held-off Dawn Wall to score a tough win in the Schweppes Handicap at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Dawn Wall stormed down the outside and looked as though he was going to swamp her rivals, but Washington Heights fought back on the inside to claim victory.

Gerald Ryan revealed after the race that the Shannon Stakes and the Epsom Handicap are both on the agenda for Washington Heights.
