The second appearance of equine superstar Winx in the feature race headlines an impressive 2017 Chelmsford Stakes Day card at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Nine races will be run and won on 2017 Chelmsford Stakes Day and talented fields have been drawn to each, but we have analysed every horse in order to help you find a winner.

The ANZ Bloodstock News Handicap (1300m) will officially begin the 2017 Chelmsford Stakes Day action at 12:10pm, while Winx will step out at 3:50pm.

Race 1 (12:10pm) ANZ Bloodstock News Handicap (1300m)

Only eight horses will step out in Race 1 on Chelmsford Stakes Day, including exciting Godolphin prospect Beau Geste (barrier 1). The Street Cry colt has not been seen at the races since May, but posted a dominant two-length win in an 1100m race at Canterbury in his only career start and has trialled well in the lead-up to this race. Island Missile (barrier 3) is seeking a third-consecutive race win, but faces a notable step up in class, while Super Ex (barrier 2) is also look to this a third career win and has the notable advantage of Hugh Bowman in the saddle. Devolving (barrier 8) returned to the races for a credible third at Canterbury and will take improvement into this race.

Tip: No. 3 Beau Geste ($2.90)

Race 2 (12:45pm) National Jockeys Trust Handicap (2000m)

A classy field of stayers has been confirmed for Race 2 and it is an open event from a betting perspective. Vaucluse Bay (barrier 8) has gone amiss at his two most-recent starts, but he should return to ideal racing conditions in this race and is not without a chance of returning to winning form. Up ‘N’ Rolling (barrier 1) returned to the races for a smart win at Canterbury and has conditions to suit upon stepping up to Saturday grade, while the consistent Multifacets (barrier 4) is drawn well and has the notable advantage of Hugh Bowman in the saddle. Roman Son (barrier 7) has not been seen at the races since last June, but was outstanding through three undefeated winter starts and has claims in this race.

Tip: No. 4 Multifacets – Each Way ($7/$2.10)

Race 3 (1:20pm) TAB Supports Jockeys Trust Mile (1600m)

Eight horses remain in contention for Race 3 on Chelmsford Stakes Day following the scratching of leading contender Up ‘N’ Rolling, who will instead line up in Race 2. More To Gain (barrier 5) posted two wins and three seconds through five starts last time in and should find a good position in transit from barrier 5, while Miami Dade (barrier 2) has been inconsistent this time to say the least, but is drawn and weighted well. Jaminzah (barrier 6) has posted two impressive wins in Victoria at his two most-recent appearances and switches back to the Sydney way of going with Hugh Bowman in the saddle. Embley (barrier 7) is yet to show his best this time in, but is more than capable at the grade if he brings his best.

Tip: Np. 4 Jaminzah ($4.60)

Race 4 (2:00pm) TAB Highway Handicap (1400m)

It is an open field of country horses that will step out for this weekend’s Highway Handicap and there is a case to be made for close to every runner. Mr Pumblechook (barrier 6) has been racing well in low-rating races, but is drawn to get an ideal run in transit in the Highway Handicap. Last Try Wins (barrier 11) has gone extremely close at each of his last four starts, including a Highway Handicap a fortnight ago and is arguably over the odds at his current quote. My Tagoson (barrier 16) has been charged with overcoming an awkward draw, but has found terrific form this time and will be partnered by Hugh Bowman. Snowbrook (barrier 7), Collins Creek (barrier 14) and Count Cumani all carry winning form into the race and will be right in the finish on class alone.

Tip: No. 1 Last Try Wins – Each Way ($11/$3.60)

Race 5 (2:35pm) Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m)

A small but talented field will step out for the Concorde Stakes, including Group 1 winner Redzel (barrier 6). Redzel ran an agonizingly-close second in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) in autumn, but managed to break through for a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1200m) during the Brisbane Winter Carnival. While charged with overcoming a race-high 60kgs, he is the proven performer of this field and will be tough to beat. Spieth (barrier 3) has gone close to a Group 1 win several times during his racing career and is seeking a berth in The Everest this time, so will be ready to perform first-up. The Monstar (barrier 1), Felines (barrier 4), Nieta (barrier 5) and Super Too (barrier 2) complete the Concorde Stakes field.

Tip: No. 3 Spieth ($3)

Race 6 (3:10pm) Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m)

Seven three-year-old fillies will contest the Furious Stakes and not one would look out of place in the winner’s stall. Formality (barrier 6) held on to win the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) first-up a fortnight ago and will only improve into this race. Champagne Cuddles (barrier 8) savaged the line for third in the Silver Shadow Stakes and will probably take the most improvement into this race, while Alizee (barrier 1) finishing second and will be piloted by Hugh Bowman on Saturday. Former Perth filly Seannie (barrier 4) should also take improvement into this race, but could already be looking for a step up in distance. Whispered Secret (barrier 2) has not been seen at the races since April, but was outstanding as a two-year-old and has drawn well into this field.

Tip: No. 1 Formality ($3.80)

Race 7 (3:50pm) Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m)

Twelve talented horses will contest the feature race at Randwick on Saturday, however the highlight is undoubtedly the second appearance of champion mare Winx (barrier 3) this season and the result is probably therefore a foregone conclusion. Winx completely missed the start in the Warwick Stakes (1400m) a fortnight ago, but she still managed to pip stable mate Foxplay on the line and she will only improve second-up and out to a mile. Sense Of Occasion (barrier 2) found career-best form in autumn and is a leading chance of finishing in the Chelmsford Stakes first three, while Red Excitement (barrier 5) and Antonio Giuseppe (barrier 10) will both carry improvement into this race.

Tip: No. 11 Winx ($1.10)

Race 8 (4:30pm) Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m)

The Tramway Stakes is shaping as arguably the race of the day at Randwick on Saturday and it is a particularly open event from a betting perspective. Happy Clapper (barrier 2) returned to typically excellent form through a strong autumn campaign and is reportedly ready to fire first-up in this race, while McCreery (barrier 3) and Heavens Above (barrier 4) also both resume, but have the class to figure first-up. Mackintosh (barrier 10) and Tom Melbourne (barrier 8) should both take plenty of improvement from their respective first-up runs, while Invincible Gem (barrier 5) beat a classy field with complete ease in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) first-up and should only improve at 1400m and with a race under her belt.

Tip: No. 7 Invincible Gem ($4.20)

Race 9 (5:10pm) Schweppes Handicap (1400m)

Eleven horses will step out in the final race on 2017 Chelmsford Stakes Day. Washington Heights (barrier 2) returned to racing for a smart win at Rosehill in July, but was badly held up before finishing fourth in mid-August. The six-year-old has a class and fitness edge on much of this field and should prove extremely difficult to beat. Dawn Wall (barrier 11) was a strong and consistent performer as a three-year-old and will resume in this race, while Farolitos (barrier 12), Rocket Commander (barrier 8) and Veladero (barrier 10) are all more than capable in their best form.
