The Bryce Heys-trained four-year-old found career best form through a short but impressive Spring Carnival preparation and has so far received the greatest share of attention in Black Caviar Lightning Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes; firming onto the second line at a current $5 quote.

Spieth has been a strong and consistent performer throughout his entire racing career to date and will carry a record of five wins and a further two minors, from only nine career starts into the Lightning Stakes 2017.

Having resumed for a smart win in the Listed The Lightning (1100m) at Randwick on October 15th, the Thorn Park entire flew home late in the Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m) on November 5th and was unlucky to be beaten by a bob of the head by Malaguerra.

2017 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes betting markets continue to be led by three-year-olds Flying Artie and Star Turn, who share the top line at $4.80 quotes.

Flying Artie is yet to finish outside the first three through six career starts and is weighted for success in the Lightning Stakes, with only 55.5kgs in tow.

The Artie Schiller colt resumed for a comfortable, albeit shaky win in the Group 3 Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) in spring before he stormed home to post a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Derby Day.

Star Turn will also carry a race-low 55.5kgs in the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes and will jump from barrier 2, with Dwayne Dunn in the saddle.

Star Turn is yet to claim his maiden Group 1 crown, but the three-year-old is a proven performer amongst open company after delivering a smart field a comfortable defeat in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1100m) in spring.

In what is perhaps a good omen for the colt, stable mate Chautauqua jumped from barrier 2, with Dunn aboard when he saluted in last year’s edition of the sprint feature.

Supido ($8.50), veteran Terravista ($9) and Heatherly ($9.50) remain prominent in 2017 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes betting, while the likes of Illustrious Lad ($15), The Quarterback ($18) and Faatinah ($26) all represent terrific value.
