Fuhryk On The Drift In Australian Guineas Betting

Jockey Corey Parish is confident that Fuhryk has the ability to defy her quote in 2017 Australian Guineas betting markets and win the feature race at Flemington on Saturday.

Fuhryk has posted four race wins through her six career starts to date, but the filly has continued to drift in Australian Guineas betting markets after being scratched from the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) a fortnight ago.

Parish conceded that the Star Witness filly would have taken ideal benefit from a run at 1400m ahead of the Australian Guineas, but is confident that she is still primed to lay a great account for herself in the mile classic.

“I don’t think that it will be a problem,” Parish told Racing Ahead.

“’Obviously she’s only ever run over the 1200m and ideally we wanted to do that 1400m before stepping up to a mile tomorrow, but I think she’s pretty spot-on and has done enough galloping to make sure the mile isn’t a worry at all.

“She was already saying that she wanted to get up to these sort of trips (last start), so I think they will be spot-on.

“I would say from a horse that is usually pretty close (to the pace) at 1200m, we’ll probably be pretty close tomorrow from the gate.”

Fuhryk showed plenty of ability prior to making her debut, but faded in the late stages of the Grand Hotel Frankston Handicap (1200m) in July 20th and was sent to the paddock.

Resuming in late November for an impressive win in the Be Races Ready Maiden Plate (1200m), the three-year-old repeated the effort in each of the CRT Whites Rural BM64 (1200m) and Vobis Gold Carat (1200m).

Producing a smart effort to finish fourth in the Inglis Dash (1100m) on January 28th, Fuhryk was last seen savaging the line for a two-length win in the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) on February 11th.

Undoubtedly requiring luck in transit from barrier 14, Fuhryk will carry only 54.5kgs as a filly in the Australian Guineas field.

Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering Fuhryk at 2017 Australian Guineas odds of $14, having drifted from an opening quote of $11.
