There are nine stunning races set to run right throughout the afternoon before the Victoria Derby is run at 2.50pm (AEDT) and we will keep you up to date with the results of every single race.

Race 7 – 2016 Victoria Derby Results

Prized Icon outstayed his rivals to record an excellent performance in the 2016 Victoria Derby at Flemington this afternoon.

Sacred Elixir started the Victoria Derby as a clear favourite and he tracked into the race nicely around the turn, but Prized Icon had the superior turn-of-foot and he was far too strong for his rivals in the final stages of the race.

Prized Icon raced away from his rivals late to record a comfortable victory from Sacred Elixir, while Inference stormed home late after he did not have a great deal of luck in running.

Trainer James Cummings joined his great grandfather Jim Cummings, grandfather Bart Cummings and father Anthony Cummings as Victoria Derby winning trainers and he was thrilled with the performance of his star galloper.

“Like most trainers I think it will take a little while for this to sink in.

“The first thing I can reflect on is how beautiful Glyn had this horse travelling, particularly in the early stages.

“To win staying races like this, horses just have to be in their own comfort zone and today was chalk and chees for this horse from his last start when he got none of that.

“He has been a model of consistency since he won the Group in the autumn and although he was winless leading into today, he had shown such strength and the miles and miles of Cummings training had kicked in and he kicked away to win a Derby.”

Race 1 – 2016 Carbine Club Stakes Results

Comin’ Through stormed home from the tail of the field to record an impressive victory in the 2016 Carbine Club Stakes at Flemington this afternoon.

Comin’ Through was having just his third race start in the Carbine Club Stakes and he got shuffled back in the early stages of the race, but worked into the race nicely coming into the turn.

There was plenty of horses in the finish – including the Godolphin duo of Morton’s Fork and Bezel – but Comin’ Through was always finishing the strongest.

Chris Waller compared Comin’ Through to Kermadec and he is confident that he will develop into a Guineas horse in the autumn.

Race 2 – 2016 Wakeful Stakes Results

Tiamo Grace stamped herself as the main danger to Yankee Rose in the Crown Oaks with a comfortable victory in the 2016 Wakeful Stakes.

Damian Lane was caught wide on Tiamo Grace in the early stages of the Wakeful Stakes, but she travelled into the run nicely and looked as though she had the race won a long way from home.

She was very strong at the end of the 2000 metres in the Wakeful Stakes and she looks as though she will relish the step-up to 2500 metres in the Crown Oaks.

Race 3 – 2016 Sensis Stakes Results

It was not an easy watch for favourite backers, but Sheidel fought back in the final stages of the race to record a tough victory in the Sensis Stakes.

Sheidel absolutely flew the gates and took up the running in the early stages of the race, but looked as though she was going to get run down in the final stages of the race.

Private Secretary and Wild Rain looked as though they were going to finish the top of her rival, but Sheidel held on in the final stages to score a very brave win.

Race 4 – 2016 Lexus Stakes Results

Oceanographer earn ballot-exempt entry into the 2016 Melbourne Cup with a stunning win in the Lexus Stakes.

Oceanographer went into the Lexus Stakes as a clear favourite following his fast-finishing third in the Geelong Cup, but he looked in trouble when he was at the tail of the field coming into the straight.

Tom Melbourne kicked away at the top of the straight and looked as though he would be tough to catch, but Oceanographer stormed home in the final stages to score a thrilling victory.

Race 5 – 2016 Coolmore Stud Stakes Results

Flying Artie upstaged his more fancied rivals to record an upset victory in the 2016 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington this afternoon.

Astern, Extreme Choice and Star Turn dominated the headlines in the lead-up to the Coolmore Stud Stakes, but it was Flying Artie that had the superior turn-of-foot in the final stages of the race.

Astern received a lovely trail into the race behind Russian Revolution, but he was no match for Flying Artie late while Star Turn toughed it out on the speed to finish third.

Race 6 – 2016 Myer Classic Preview

The Myer Classic is a very interesting betting race.

First Seal returned to a semblance of her best form in the Tristarc Stakes and a repeat of that performance would make her very tough to beat in the Myer Classic.

You can’t knock the form of Don’t Doubt Mamma, while Danish Twist is a much better horse than her run in the Tristarc Stakes suggests.

Race 6 – 2016 Myer Classic Results

Talented filly I Am A Star made history by becoming the first three-year-old in history to win the Myer Classic.

I Am A Star over raced a touch in the early stages of the race and Dean Yendall allowed her to stride forward to settle in second position.

Yendall made his move a long way from home and she kicked away from her rivals at the top of the straight before she held-off the swoopers in the final stages of the race to record a very brave win.

Race 8 – 2016 Cantala Stakes Results

Le Romain took out the Cantala Stakes (formerly known as the Emirates Stakes) to deliver Hugh Bowman his second Group 1 victory of the afternoon.

Le Romain flew under the radar somewhat ahead of the Cantala Stakes after a tough run in the Epsom Handicap, but he cruised into the race under his own steam to take up the running at the 300 metre mark.

There were plenty of dangers in the last 100 metres, but Le Romain battled on bravely to claim his second Group 1 win after winning the Royal Randwick Guineas in the autumn.

Race 9 – 2016 Linlithgow Stakes Results

Illustrious Lad upstaged his rivals to record an upset win in the Linlithgow Stakes at Flemington this afternoon.

Keen Array and Southern Legend looked as though they were going to finish, but it was Illustrious Lad that had the superior turn-of-foot when asked for an extra effort.

Illustrious Lad hit the front at the 150 metre mark and he held-off a fast-finishing Counterattack to score an impressive victory.
