Capitalist bounced back from his Todman Stakes defeat to win the 2016 Golden Slipper at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon.

Punters were quick to write off Capitalist after he was beaten by Kiss And Make Up in the Todman Stakes, but he was given a perfect run in transit by jockey Blake Shinn and he exploded when he was asked for an extra to record a very impressive victory.
Shinn missed out on winning the Golden Slipper when he missed the ride on Sebring in 2008 due to suspension and it clearly meant a great deal that he had been able to record his first win in the world’s richest two-year-old race.
“Words can’t describe it, I am so emotional,” Shinn said.
“This is the best feeling ever.
“They wrote him off, but I have to take the team off to Snowden Racing.
“We never wrote this horse off after his last start defeat and you just need to have the faith and go in confident to every race.
“Full credit to this horses ability, he backed up from the Magic Millions and came here today.
“I was just asking him for one more performance and he did it for me.
“I am so proud.”
Peter Snowden won a Golden Slipper with Sepoy after he was upstaged in the Todman Stakes and he was able to repeat the dose with Capitalist this afternoon.
Snowden said that he was always confident that Capitalist would be able to return to his best form in the Golden Slipper and he could not believe that the Golden Slipper odds of the star colt has drifted by such a great deal.
“It is fantastic,” Snowden said.
“How can you put a horse from $2.80 out to $11 off one run?
“I am not one to spruik horses – I learnt that off John Hawkes – and you let the horse do the talking, so rather than me beat up everybody and tell them not to drop off, I thought the best way is just to come out and produce on race day and that is what he did.
“He showed right from his very first start that he was special, but because he got beat the other day they decided that the Magic Millions form wasn’t up to scratch, but the way he has been working and the way he goes about his job, today just typified the thoughts we had about the horse and his work on Tuesday was great.
“I am so glad it came off today.”
Yankee Rose absolutely savaged the line in the final stages of the Golden Slipper and she will be very tough to beat in the Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m), while Flying Artie hung on to finish third.
