It was billed as a match race between Winx and Hartnell, but the Godolphin galloper was not in the same league as the champion mare and she put several lengths on her rivals at the top of the straight.

Winx just kept on extending her lead in the final stages of the race and her victory was even more dominant than the one that she recorded 12 months earlier.

Hartnell was no match for Winx, but was still able to battle to the line for second while Yankee Rose made up good ground late to finish third.

Jockey Hugh Bowman was almost speechless following the Cox Plate victory of Winx and the clearly emotional hoop could not pay more credit to the superstar mare.

“What can I add to that,” Bowman said.

“She has just given us all such an amazing ride.

“I am lost for words to be honest.

“To ride a horse like this and come out on to the track before the race and have the crowd cheer you on to the track, I was really moved by that.

“I had to regather myself when I got around to the start.

“I’ve had a bit of an in and out afternoon, but to be able to produce a ride that this mare is worthy of today gives me so much pride.

“Chris Waller has managed the mare so well and it has just been a wonderful ride for us all.”

Azazel stormed home late to make his racing debut with an impressive victory in the 2016 Inglis Banner at Moonee Valley this afternoon.

There was plenty of money for Azazel in the lead-up to the Inglis Banner after he performed strongly in a barrier trial at Cranbourne.

Luiza took up the running in the early stages of the race and Azazel got well back, but the swoopers had the advantage and it was the son of Snitzel that had the best turn-of-foot.

Race 2 – 2016 City Jeep Handicap Results

O’Malley stormed home from the tail of the field to record a very comfortable victory in the City Jeep Handicap at Moonee Valley this afternoon.

The Street Boss gelding was always travelling strongly and he responded well when asked for an extra effort by jockey Craig Newitt to quick put away his rivals.

O’Malley was having his first race start since he was outclassed in the McEwen Stakes and the decision of trainer Enver Jusufovic to freshen him up for this paid dividends in a big way.

Gun Case started the race as favourite, but he did not show his trademark early dash and he was under pressure a long way from home.

Sweet Sherry defied a late betting drift to record a strong victory in the 2016 Crockett Stakes at Moonee Valley this afternoon.

Sweet Sherry was slightly slow out of the gate and jockey Steven Arnold elected to ride the talented filly patiently in the early stages of the race before she travelled into the race nicely.

She responded well when she was asked for an extra effort by Arnold and she fought off Prompt Response and Overstep in the last 100 metres to get the job done.

Race 4 – 2016 Red Anchor Stakes Results

Archives did plenty wrong, but he was still able to get the job done in the 2016 Red Anchor Stakes at Moonee Valley this afternoon.

James McDonald elected to let Archives travel into the race right on the speed and wide and the son of Helmet looked under pressure a long way from home.

Crafted loomed on the outside and looked as though he was going to get the job done, but Archives fought back in the final stages to win the Red Anchor Stakes.

Race 5 – 2016 Tesio Stakes Results

Kaniana finished over the top of her rivals to record an impressive victory in the 2016 Tesio Stakes at Moonee Valley this afternoon.

Damian Lane gave Kaniana a lovely run in transit and she responded well when he asked her for an extra effort to finish over the top of Rocket Commander.

Lady Le Fay started the race as a clear favourite, but Hugh Bowman elected to cut the corner and stay on the rail in the inferior ground.

Race 6 – 2016 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic Results

Nurse Kitchen showed an incredible turn-of-foot in the final stages to score an upset victory in the 2016 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic this afternoon.

Sezanne looked the main danger to I Am A Star in last 100 metres, but Kerrin McEvoy patiently bided his time on Nurse Kitchen and that proved to be a winning move when he motored home late.

Nurse Kitchen was having just her third race start after winning on debut at Geelong and he failed to fire in the Blue Star Group Handicap (1200m) at Caulfield on October 1.

Race 7 – 2016 Crystal Mile Results

The United States proved far too good for his rivals to record a very comfortable victory in the 2016 Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley this afternoon.

Kerrin McEvoy got The United States off the rail at the perfect time and he moved into the race nicely before he showed his typical turn-of-foot when asked for an effort.

The United States has had a disrupted 2016 Spring Racing Carnival campaign that caused him to miss the Cox Plate, but he will now press on to the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (2000m) in a fortnight – the race formerly known as the Mackinnon Stakes.

Race 8 – 2016 Moonee Valley Cup Results

Grand Marshal took advantage of a strong early tempo to record a tough staying victory over stablemate Who Shot Thebarman in the Moonee Valley Cup this afternoon.

Who Shot Thebarman and Grand Marshal fought out the finish in the 2015 edition of the Sydney Cup and it was an exact repeat in the Moonee Valley Cup, with Grand Marshal proving too strong late once again.

Authoritarian put the pressure on Gallante at the 1000 metre mark, while Second Wave pulled too hard and that set the race up perfectly for the Chris Waller-trained duo.

Grand Marshal and Who Shot Thebarman are both set to press on to the 2016 Melbourne Cup at Flemington on November 1.

Race 10 – 2016 LUCRF Super Vase Stakes Results

This will be a key trial for the 2016 Victoria Derby.

Sacred Elixir was a touch disappointing in the Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas, but he raced like a horse that was crying out for 2000 metres and he can win this race on the way to the Derby.
