Trainers Peter and Paul Snowden had contemplated taking on the older horses in the Group 1 $1m Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington on Saturday week but have elected to keep Capitalist against his own age down the Flemington straight on the first day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival this weekend.

Regular rider Blake Shinn sticks with Capitalist who has drawn barrier seven in the ten horse Coolmore Stud Stakes field.

Capitalist proved to be the best two year old during the Sydney Autumn Carnival with a commanding win in the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill but has failed to win at two starts as a three year.

The Written Tycoon colt resumed for a fourth to Star Turn in the Group 3 $150,000 Smithfield RSL Club San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on August 13 followed by a third to stablemate Russian Revolution in the Group 2 $300,000 The Star Roman Consul (1200m) at Randwick on October 1.

Capitalist will be taking on Russian Revolution again in the Coolmore Stud Stakes and Snitzel colt has drawn the outside barrier with Kerrin McEvoy retaining the ride.

The Team Hawkes trained Star Turn is also lining up on Saturday and will be dropping back to three year old class after beating the older horses in the Group 2 $400,000 Mitsubishi Electric Schillaci Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on October 8.

Star Turn has drawn barrier four with Dwayne Dunn replacing Schillaci Stakes winning jockey Craig Williams who gets the mount on John O’Shea’s last start Telstra Phonewords Stakes winner Archives who will jump from gate none.

O’Shea will also saddle up Golden Rose winner Astern (barrier 8) who is coming off a surprise first up defeat when second in the Roman Consul with James McDonald in the saddle again.

Caulfield trainer Mick Price will have two strong chances in the Coolmore Stud Stakes with Extreme Choice and Flying Artie both coming off last start wins.

Flying Artie has drawn barrier one with Hugh Bowman taking over the reins from the suspended Damien Oliver who rode the colt to victory in the Group 3 $350,000 Catanach’s Jewellers Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on October 12.

Extreme Choice has drawn nicely at barrier three with Craig Newitt hoping to claim another Group 1 win on the Not A Single Doubt colt after the pair combined to win the Group 1 $1.5m Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield during the Melbourne Autumn Carnival and the Group 1 $500,000 Charter Keck Cramer Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley at his first back for the Spring.

The Lindsay Park Team of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig will saddle up Derryn who has drawn barrier two with Joao Moreira taking the ride and Tony Noonan has Manolo Blahniq from gate six with Steven Arnold to ride.

Kiwi colt Saracino will jump from gate five with Mark Zahra replacing Damien Oliver.

Coolmore Stud Stakes market order at Ladbrokes.com.au: $3.60 Extreme Choice, $3.80 Astern, $4.40 Star Turn, $10 Flying Artie, Russian Revolution, $11 Capitalist, $21 Derryn, $31 Saracino, $34 Archives, $101 Monolo Blahniq.
