2016 Caulfield Cup Tips: All About Jameka

Leading form analyst Daniel O’Sullivan has Jameka on top of his 2016 Caulfield Cup tips and he believes that the talented mare is hard to knock in the Group 1 event at Caulfield on Saturday.

Jameka stamped herself as a leading Caulfield Cup contender when she recorded a dominant victory in the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on September 17 and she went straight to the top of the betting market with Ladbrokes when Godolphin confirmed that Hartnell will head to the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley next Saturday.

Update: Jameka remains a clear favourite in Caulfield Cup betting markets, but there has not been a massive amount of support for the talented mare and she is still at the $3.70 mark.

The best-backed runner in Caulfield Cup betting with Ladbrokes has been Chris Waller-trained Sacred Master, who is into $13 after opening at $31 earlier in the week.

O’Sullivan told Racing Active that Jameka has had a flawless Caulfield Cup preparation and he is of the opinion that the Myboycharlie mare deserves to be a clear favourite in betting for the $3 million event.

“She has really gone to a new level this preparation,” O’Sullivan said.

“She was just fair to start her campaign, but she was very good behind Awesome Rock in that race with all the interference and in the Naturalism she really started to show where she is at this preparation.

“She ran a super-fast time there for a really strong rating and her run in the Turnbull behind Hartnell – if you take her out of the race she has smashed all the others and we would be all lauding her prospects.

“Her rating from her past two starts are clearly better than the others here and she has the ideal profile for a Caulfield Cup winner.

“She is coming off some ratings that are bordering on genuine Group 1 weight-for-age level and she gets into this race under handicap conditions significantly below that.

Big Memory being scratched is a huge help for her because it opens up the option to press forward and more easily get across.

“There is really nothing not to like about here.

“She is exceptionally hard to beat in the race.”

Real Love is another mare that has been well-backed in 2016 Caulfield Cup betting markets and she is now on the second line of betting at a quote of $7.50.

O’Sullivan said that there was plenty of quality in the JRA Cup victory of Real Love, but he believes that she would need to improve significantly on her previous best performance to have any chance of winning the Caulfield Cup.

“She is definitely a chance, but I can’t find her that short,” O’Sullivan said.

“Her Moonee Valley run was very impressive and she ran good time.

“Her rating from that run – even at the weights in this race – is at least a length and probably two lengths behind the standard that will be required and that was a career peak for her.

“She needs to run to a clear new peak to win this race and after 31 starts I’m not sure that she can do that.”

Jameka is currently available at 2016 Caulfield Cup odds of $3.60 with Ladbrokes and she is a clear favourite from Real Love ($7.50), Scottish ($7.50), Articus ($9.50) and Sir Isaac Newton ($12).
