2015 William Reid Stakes Tips: Angelic Light The Horse To Beat

Angelic Light stamped herself as one of the most talented sprinters in Australia when she upset Lankan Rupee to win the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on September 6, but she is still chasing a maiden win at Group 1 level after performing well without winning in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley, the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at the same venue on October 24 and the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot on November 22.

Lester told RSN this morning that Angelic Light has plenty in her favor heading into the 2015 William Reid Stakes and he is confident that luck in running, which will prove key in the Group 1 event, will favor the daughter of Holy Roman Emperor.

“I think that Angelic Light is well-suited to win first-up,” Lester said.

“I think that she will get a great run and she has a great tactician in Ollie (Damien Oliver) on her.

“She is a good Moonee Valley horse and I think that everything is right for her to run well.”

The 2015 William Reid Stakes is a very open betting race and the likes of Angelic Light ($5), Rebel Dane ($5.50), Vain Queen ($6.50), Earthquake ($7) and Peron ($8) are all available at single figure odds.

Rebel Dane has been set for a first-up tilt at the William Reid Stakes and Lester expects that the California Dane entire will be the horse hitting the line the strongest in the final stages of the race, while he is not ruling John Sadler-trained Vain Queen out of his winning chances.

“I think that he (Rebel Dane) will probably track Angelic Light into the race and he will have a big finish on him,” Lester said.

“He looks well prepped up for this.

“I think that you can make a strong argument that she should have won the Oakleigh Plate, she lost momentum at wrong time of the race and I think that she can posy up closer around the Valley and run well.”

Favourites have an excellent record in the William Reid Stakes and the likes of Black Caviar (2011 and 2013), Apache Cat (2008), Miss Andretti (2007) and Regimental Gal (2004) have all saluted as the punters elect in the Group 1 event.
