2015 Stakes Day Results: Turn Me Loose Wins 2015 Emirates Stakes

Nine talent-rich races have been confirmed to run on 2015 Stakes Day at Flemington this afternoon; highlighted by a number of black type races including both the Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m) and Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m).

2015 Stakes Day Results will officially get underway with the running of the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) for two-year-olds at 12:20pm local time; pressing through the two Group 1 races and concluding with the Emirates Airline Handicap (1400m) at 5:40pm.

Race 1 Maribyrnong Plate Results

Power Trip has completed an ideal debut to competition this afternoon; mustering an impressive late kick to take out the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m).

Power Trip flew to barriers and immediately took up the pace on the outside rail alongside the likes of clear race favourite Dalradian and Valliano.

Challenged late by Flying Artie who elected to hug the inside rail, the Hard Spun gelding stamped himself as one to watch leading into the 2016 Autumn Carnival when bobbing his head at the right time for success.

Macedon Lodge runner Divan has produced an impressive final straight sprint to take out the Starlight Children’s Foundation Plate (2000m) this afternoon.

Divan jumped from the barriers well and was allowed to stride forward by jockey Damien Oliver, who found a perfect spot for the four-year-old on the heels of early leaders Okahu Bay, Distillation and Pacific Heights on the fence.

Hugging the rails rounding onto the final straight, the Zabeel gelding immediately responded when asked for an extra effort; hitting the fore of the field with 300m to run and maintaining to hit the line a length ahead of a fast-finishing Velox.

Race 3 Group 3 Queen’s Cup Results

Dandino has returned to winning form in style on Stakes Day this afternoon; completing an impressive performances to take out the Group 3 Queen’s Cup (2600m) with ease.

Jumping well, jockey Ben Melham settled Dandino in prime position on the heels of Bonfire, Secret Number and Don Doremo past the post the first time.

Settling into a great rhythm and receiving an ideal run in transit on the fence of the back straight, Melham peeled the son of Dansili out into the middle of the course upon arriving at the final straight, who responded with an impressive turn of foot to pull clear and hit the line two lengths ahead of Secret Number.

The partnership of trainer Darren Weir and Michelle Payne have notched another black type win on Stakes Day as Palentino produced an impressive sprint in the final straight to take out the Listed Hilton Hotels & Resorts Stakes (1400m).

Palentino jumped from the gates only fairly and settled off the pace of early leaders Secret Prophet, Demonstrate and Les Darci who set a reasonable tempo over the back straight and towards the turn.

Rounding onto the straight wide and with plenty to do, the Teofilo colt produced a monumental turn of foot down the outside of his rivals; reaching runaway leader Demonstrate before pulling half a length clear.

Race 5 Antler Luggage Handicap Results

Rhythm To Spare has led from start to finish to take out the Antler Luggage Handicap (1600m) with ease this afternoon.

Damien Oliver allowed Rhythm To Spare to charge forward and take up the pace in the Antler Luggage Handicap after jumping well, setting a reasonable tempo alongside the likes of Elmantosh and King’s Dance.

Offered a clear racing line upon rounding onto the final straight, the Pins gelding kicked clear and continued to find over the final 200m; hitting the line two lengths ahead of Defiant Angel.

Race 6 2015 Darley Classic Results

Four-year-old Delectation has delivered some of the world’s best sprinters defeat in the featured Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m) this afternoon.

Delectation was only given a slight hope of success at double-figure odds prior to jump, but did his chances of success no harm when settling in ideal position off the pace of Buffering and Tiger Tees.

Allowing the gelding plenty of time to wind up, jockey James McDonald pressed the button with 300m to run; Delectation locking in a fierce sprint battle with Chautauqua but poking clear to secure a maiden Group 1 victory.

Race 7 2015 Emirates Stakes Results

Turn Me Loose has produced a brave effort to win the 2015 Emirates Stakes (1600m) at Flemington this afternoon after leading the feature race from start to finish.

Kerrin McEvoy picked up the ride on Turn Me Loose after regular hoop Opie Bosson was ruled out of the race through suspension, and immediately led the four-year-old to the fore of the field after jump.

Having set only a fair pace in transit, the Iffraaj gelding charged forward upon rounding onto the final straight; pulling clear enough of his rivals to survive a huge late effort from Myer Classic champion Politeness in the final 200m.

Race 8 Group 2 Matriarch Stakes Results

Lucia Valentina has produced a brave effort to return to winning form ahead of a talented field of mares in the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes (2000m) this afternoon.

The Savabeel mare had not posted a race win in more than a year leading into this afternoon’s mares’ feature but jumped well from a wide draw and settled off the pace of early leader Long Face Grace.

Rounding onto the final straight wide and with plenty to do, jockey Damien Oliver elected to pull the five-year-old to the outside rail with 400m to run; a decision which paid dividends when the mare produced a massive turn of foot to beat Managress on the line.

Race 9 Emirates Airline Handicap Results

Malaguerra has completed at exceptional week at Flemington this afternoon; backing up his win in Tuesday’s Lavazza Short Black (1400m) with success in the Emirates Airline Handicap (1400m).

Ben Melham was confident he was on the right horse this afternoon and let the four-year-old take a position on the heels of early leader Gracious Prospect who set a quick tempo from the outset.

Rounding onto the final straight in a good position, Melham led Malaguerra to the outside rail but appeared to drop a reign and fell back into the field; the horse recovering and responding with a huge turn of foot to claim a seventh career win.
