Leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller trained the first four horses across the line in the 2014 Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) and he has included 25 horses in the nominations for this year’s race.

Sacred Falls has been set for the Doncaster Mile and will have the chance to become the first horse in history to win the time-honored race on three consecutive occasions, while Royal Descent will be given the opportunity to turn-the-tables on her stablemate after finishing second last year.

The Doncaster Mile is one of a number of options for Epsom Handicap winner He’s Your Man and Waller is also keeping his options open with Cox Plate winner Adelaide, talented filly Amicus, imported stayer Beaten Up, classy mare Catkins, Coolmore Stud Stakes placegetter Delectation, Victoria Derby winner Preferment, French import Weary and Group 1 placegetter Winx.

Another trainer that has an outstanding record in the Doncaster Mile is seven-time winner Gai Waterhouse and she could also have multiple runners in the 2015 edition of the race after including 17 horses in the nominations.

Classy mare Cosmic Endeavour has not been seen at the races since she took out the 2014 edition of the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m), but Waterhouse has high hopes for the mare in the autumn and the Doncaster Mile is on her agenda.

Waterhouse has not revealed her plans with Group 1 winning three-year-old Almalad, but he has been included in the Doncaster Mile nominations, while Spring Champion Stakes winner Hampton Court, imported galloper Excess Knowledge, the promising Wandjina and lightly-raced Supara could also find themselves in the race.

Racing To Win (2006), Haradasun (2007), Triple Honour (2008) and Sacred Falls (2013) have all won the Doncaster Mile as three-year-olds in recent years and the age group is set to have a strong hand in the 2015 Doncaster Mile.

Team Snowden-trained Shooting To Win recorded his maiden win at the highest level of racing when he took out the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) last year and the Doncaster Mile is one of a number of races on his agenda for the autumn.

Shooting To Win is set to return to racing in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens next Saturday and he will return to Group 1 level for the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) on March 7 before potentially taking on the older horses in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) and Doncaster Mile.

Another Group 1 winning three-year-old that has been included in the Doncaster Mile nominations is Flight Stakes winner First Seal and Golden Rose Stakes winner Hallowed Crown, while Godolphin colt Sweynesse, the undefeated Wawail, Western Australian hopeful Disposition and Robert Smerdon-trained Fontein Ruby have also been competitive at the highest level of racing.

The 2014 Doncaster Mile had an international presence in the form of Japanese mare Hana’s Goal and Japan will be represented in the race again by Real Impact and World Ace.

Real Impact has not recorded a win at Group 1 level since he took out the 2011 edition of the Yasuda Kinen (1608m), but he has been a consistent performer against the cream of the crop in Japan and he took out the Group 2 Hanshin Cup (1400m) in his final start in 2014.

World Ace took out the Group 2 Yomiuri Milers Cup (1609m) in Kyoto last year and he was partnered by Australian hoop Craig Williams when he finished fifth behind the world’s highest-rated horse Just A Way in the Group 1 Yasuda Kinen (1609m) last year.

The Deep Impact entire failed to fire in both the Group 2 The Mainichi Okan (1800m) and the Group 1 The Mile Championship (1600m), but he finished a credible fourth behind Able Friend in the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile (1600m) at Sha Tin last December.

There was speculation at the end of last year that Able Friend would make the trip to Australia for the Doncaster Mile, but the Australian-bred galloper is set to remain in Hong Kong and has not been include in the Doncaster Mile nominations.
