2015 Cox Plate: Blake Shinn suspended, Nash Rawiller to ride Preferment

Sydney’s champion trainer Chris Waller has called on the services of Hong Kong based jockey Nash Rawiller to partner Preferment in Saturday’s Group 1 $3m Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley.

Sydney based hoop Blake Shinn was booked to rode either Preferment or stablemate Winx in the ‘Weight For Age Championship’ but was put out of business after receiving an eight meeting suspension for causing interference at the 1300m in the Listed $150,000 Darley Seymour Cup (1600m) at Seymour on Sunday.

Shinn’s suspension began at midnight on Sunday and he will be able to resume riding after midnight on October 25, 2015.

“Extremely disappointed to receive a suspension today and miss some wonderful opportunities in the coming week,” Shinn posted on twitter.

Waller will have three runners in the Cox Plate with Hugh Bowman booked to ride Winx and Glen Boss will be sticking with Kermadec.

Bowman was aboard both Preferment and Winx at their most recent runs and he has stuck with Winx after they combined to win in the Group 1 $1m The Star 150th Epsom (1600m) at Randwick on October 3.

Bowman has also had success on Preferment with wins at his last two starts in the Group 2 $200,000 Ascend Sales Trophies Hill Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on September 19 and in the Group 1 $500,000 Yellowglen Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on October 4.

Boss had been the regular rider for Kermadec since the pair combined to win the Group 1 $3m The Star 150th Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on April 6 during the Sydney Autumn Carnival but did miss the winning ride in the Group 1 $500,000 Colgate Optic White George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on September 19 when he had to hand the mount to Glyn Schofield after being suspended for careless riding.

But Boss was back on board last start when Kermadec ran home for fourth to Criterion in the Group 1 $400,000 Ladbrokes Caulfield Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield last Saturday week.

Latest betting in the Cox Plate at Ladbrokes.com.au has Winx the highest rated of the Waller trio at $6 just ahead of Kermadec at $6.50 with Preferment marked at $13.

The Lindsay Park trained Criterion shares favouritism at $5.50 with the highly rated Aidan O’Brien trained Highland Reel.
