2015 Caulfield Guineas Results: Press Statement Justifies Favouritism

The Chris Waller-trained Press Statement has continued his dominance of mile events amongst his own age group this afternoon; leading from start to finish to take out the featured Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

Press Statement jumped from the gates well and was immediately led to the fore of the field of 16 by leading hoop Hugh Bowman; setting a noticeably quick tempo ahead of Kentucky Flyer and Ready For Victory.

Receiving a dream run in transit, Press Statement was offered a clear racing line upon rounding onto the final straight and only continued to improve; mustering a huge turn of foot to finish comfortably ahead of an impressive Lizard Island and Ready For Victory.

Press Statement stamped his claims as a colt to follow when taking out the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) at only his third start during the recent Brisbane Winter Carnival, and will likely progress to a berth in the 2015 Cox Plate following his Caulfield Guineas triumph.

The success interestingly figured as the first win in the major stallion-making race for leading trainer Chris Waller.

A talented and capacity field of sixteen has been confirmed for this afternoon’s feature race for three-year-olds and it appears as though the Chris Waller-trained Press Statement will finish atop 2015 Caulfield Guineas results after returning to typically slick form this time.

Press Statement made an impressive debut to racing late in the recent Autumn Carnival; taking out a pair of minor Sydney sprints before a trip north heralded success in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) at Doomben in only his third competitive appearance.

Having returned this time for a close second in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m), the Hinchinbrook colt was unable to overcome a horror run in transit when fifth in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) a fortnight later, but responded in the best way possible when charging home to win the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) by three lengths last time out.

Perhaps requiring some luck in running from barrier 14, Press Statement has been confirmed to be partnered by leading hoop Hugh Bowman and will relish the track, distance and even weights.

Ready For Victory interestingly rates as the only other runner currently available at single figure odds for success in the feature race, and will undoubtedly post a career-best effort to date if he can top 2015 Caulfield Guineas results.

Ready For Victory immediately stamped his claims as one to watch upon debuting to racing in autumn; savaging the line for success in the Listed Festival Of Racing 1000 (1000m) before running on for a close fourth in the major Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m).

Returning this time for second in the Group 3 McNeil Stakes (1200m) on August 29th, the son of More Than Ready progressed to third in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) before failing to fire in the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Preude (1400m) last time.

Trainer Mick Price has been thrilled with the form and class displayed by Ready For Victory through the last fortnight and is confident the colt figures as his best chance to date of leading Caulfield Guineas results.

Will Press Statement and Ready For Victory appear the only two runners given a real chance of success this afternoon, a number of runners have found ideal form leading into the Caulfield Guineas and appear more than capable of posting an upset result.

Bon Aurum has beaten similar fields to that of the 2015 Caulfield Guineas on a number of occasions this season and will likely be given a gem of a ride from Kerrin McEvoy.

Debuting for fourth in an Echuca Maiden over 1200m on June 19th, the Bon Hoffa colt has experienced a rapid rise to prominence and has one each of the Listed Pin & Win Stakes (1400m) and Caulfield Guineas Prelude leading into this afternoon’s debut at Group 1 level.

Kiwi raider Dal Cielo is undoubtedly the unknown quantity of the capacity field and would not look out of place at the fore of 2015 Caulfield Guineas results.

Prominent trainer Murray Baker has a huge opinion of Dal Cielo, who closed a strong debut campaign with success in the Group 1 Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Ellerslie in March.

Ladbrokes Australia have installed Press Statement as clear $2.60 favourite to win the 2015 Caulfield Guineas this afternoon.
