2015 BRC Sprint Winner is Charlie Boy

Charlie Boy has overcome a particularly talented field to post a standout victory in this afternoon’s Group 3 BRC Sprint (1350m) at Doomben and deliver in-form hoop Blake Shinn a third race win for the day.

Receiving a good run in transit immediately after jumping well from the ideal barrier 2, Charlie Boy found a position midfield with cover while Nite Rocker, Alma’s Fury and Fast ‘N’ Rocking figured out running order and a reasonable tempo.

Finding small gaps between runners over the back straight and rounding onto the final straight, the son of Myboycharlie was offered a clear racing line 400m from the post and locked in a fierce sprint battle with Rock Sturdy and Nite Rocker; managing to push half a length clear in the dying stages to post an impressive second-up victory.

Shinn partnered champion mare Streama to success in the Group 1 Doomben Cup at this meet last year and is on track for another standout day have posted his third win in six races this afternoon.

Thrilled with the feel offered up by Charlie Boy in his 2015 BRC Sprint success, Shinn is confident the four-year-old will only improve more heading further into the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

“Great to win another race on such a feature day,” Shinn said after winning aboard Charlie Boy.

“Got him into a good position and he actually over-raced a little bit with the blinkers on today.

“Once he got comfortable and balanced he travelled beautifully.

“I got him out behind Hughie (Bowman, Rock Sturdy) and got him into a lovely spot to pounce and he did a good job I feel.

“He’s second-up and he’s only going to improve.”

Having transferred to the care of Peter and Paul Snowden for his 2015 campaign, Charlie Boy ran on for a credible fifth in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) behind the likes of Our Boy Malachi on April 18th, in what was his only other start prior to the BRC Sprint.

Yet to be confirmed for a specific path through winter, a step-up in class for the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) is sure to be considered for Charlie Boy following this afternoon’s success over the distance.
