Pride Of Dubai received a lovely run into the race just behind the well-backed favourite Fontiton and he responded well when asked for an extra effort by jockey Damian Browne, but Mark Zahra closed the gap on Pride Of Dubai and the talented colt was unlucky to stay on his feet.

David Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained Reemah flew down the outside and looked as though he was going to cause the biggest boil over in Blue Diamond Stakes history, but Pride Of Dubai was able to overcome the setback and deliver both Browne and the Snowdens their second straight win in the Blue Diamond Stakes after they took out the 2014 edition with Earthquake as part of the Darley operation.

Browne admitted that he thought he was in some trouble when the run closed on him slightly at the top of the straight, but he paid credit to the strength of the horse that he believes will be even better as an older galloper.

“He was a little bit tardy out, but I was able to rail out and follow the favourite and got a good run.

“It got a bit hairy trying to get the gap straightening and Mark shut the gate on me, but he is a big strong horse.

“Peter and Paul are masters and this horse is going to be a top horse next year.

“This was just a big bonus.”

Co-trainer Paul Snowden said after the race that it is always good to win races like the Blue Diamond Stakes, but was clearly thrilled to have won the event for the first time under his own name.

Snowden said that Pride Of Dubai would head to Sydney, but he revealed that the Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) may be a better option for the Street Cry colt, rather than the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m).

“It is a big result,” Snowden said.

“If he didn’t win today he was a certainty beaten, but to his credit he picked himself up a couple of times and pulled himself off the canvas to prove himself a worthy winner.

“His attitude is second to none, but he still has so much to learn.

“We will talk about it later on this afternoon, but I wouldn’t put it (The Golden Slipper) past him.

“He has Sires and Champagne written all over him and we don’t want to waste that, but he is very valuable now.”

Undefeated filly Fontiton went into the race as a clear favourite and was given every possible chance, but appeared to tire in the final stages and missed the placings of the Group 1 event.
