Lankan Rupee stamped himself as the highest-rated sprinter in the world when he won the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m), Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) and Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) during the 2014 Autumn Racing Carnival and he added a win in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) to his resume in the spring.

Blencowe admits that Lankan Rupee was never at his best during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, but he believes that the Redoute’s Choice gelding is the horse to beat if he is able to return to the form that he showed 12 months ago.

“I don’t think Brazen Beau’s chances are quiet that good of mixing it with the top two and I think that it is a genuine match race in that sense,” Blencowe told RSN.

“On Timeform ratings we lean the way of Lankan Rupee.

“He never really scaled the heights in the spring, but he was still able to pick up the Manikato.

“He didn’t run any of his races efficiently and he was a bit all over the place in all of them.

“He obviously had those little niggling injury queries as well.”

Deep Field is currently available at 2015 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes odds of $2.15 and has been the best-backed to take out the race, but will be making his debut at the highest level of racing.

Blencowe said that he respects the sectional times that Deep Field has produced to date, but is happy to take on the son of Northern Meteor in what is easily the toughest test of his racing career.

“Deep Field is obviously a blue sky horse,” Blencowe said.

“There isn’t a great deal of substance to his form to be truthful, but a couple of the sectionals that he has let rip with suggest that he is miles above average and certainly up to giving Lankan Rupee a race.

“If Lankan Rupee brings his form from Oakleigh Plates, Newmarkets and T.J. Smith’s then he is certainly sets a lofty standard if Deep Field tries to go with him.

“I think the Lankan Rupee will stalk Deep Field and look to have the last crack.”

Lankan Rupee has drifted out to Black Caviar Lightning Stakes odds of $2.50 with Ladbrokes.
