2014 Underwood Stakes Tips: Silent Achiever The Horse To Beat

Leading form analyst Adam Blencowe has Silent Achiever on top of his 2014 Underwood Stakes tips and believes that the star mare would be a worthy winner of the Group 1 event at Caulfield tomorrow.

Silent Achiever stamped herself as a genuine Group 1 weight-for-age performer when she took out the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) and Group 1 The BMW (2400m) during the 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and she returned to racing with a promising fourth behind Dissident in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 30.

Blencowe told RSN that Silent Achiever is the best horse on ratings in the Underwood Stakes and he believes that the O’Reilly mare should be too strong in what is not a stellar edition of the Group 1 event.

“I think it is pretty open, but that being said I think that Silent Achiever is the one in the race that would be an up to scratch winner of it,” Blencowe said.

“I don’t think that it is a vintage Underwood and it is interesting because there isn’t a single four-year-old and they have been the best represented in this race and won more than half of them in the last decade.

“In that sense it is a little bit of a thin Underwood, but Silent Achiever would be an up to scratch winner of it if she did come out and win.

“Her second-up record reads pretty well and she has the measure of Foreteller.

“He has been good in two runs back this prep, but I think that he has been getting too far back.”

There is not expected to be a great deal of early speed in the Underwood Stakes and P.B. Lawrence Stakes winner Star Rolling is set to take up the running in the early stages of the race.

Star Rolling failed to fire when sixth behind The Cleaner in the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m), but Blencowe thinks that the Casino Prince gelding will produce an improved performance in the $400,000 event and rates him the major danger to Silent Achiever.

“With a lot of those horses coming off the Dato’ we are looking at a very different scenario here without The Cleaner rolling them along,” Blencowe said.

“That probably advantages Star Rolling the most.

“I think that he was a little bit broken up by The Cleaner last start and he couldn’t finish off, but I do expect him to do better here and do the best of those coming through the Dato’.”

Silent Achiever is available at Underwood Stakes odds of $3.20 and she is a clear favourite from Foreteller ($4.80), Stipulate ($6) and The Offer ($6.50) in the betting market with Ladbrokes Australia.
