Last season’s two year old rivals Mossfun and Earthquake head the 2014 Thousand Guineas two hundred and five nominations which were released by the Melbourne Racing Club today.

The Team Hawkes trained Mossfun and Earthquake, trained by Peter Snowden, fought out the finish of the Group 1 $3.5m Tooheys New Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill during this year’s Sydney Autumn Carnival.
And the pair could be going head to head again in the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 11.
Earthqauke, who won the Group 1 $1m Sportingbet Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in February, is now under the care of John O’Shea who took over the Darley operation training duties in May before being rebranded Godolphin.
Earthquake is one of fourteen fillies nominated under the Godolphin banner while John, Michael and Wayne Hawkes have entered eleven fillies.
Golden Slipper third placegetter Bring Me The Maid is one six fillies from the Peter Moody stable and is already well advanced into her Spring campaign having run second in 850m Doomben barrier trial on July 29.
Talented young jockey made the trip from Melbourne to ride Bring Me The Maid in the Doomben trial and was happy with the hit out.
“She just had a nice quiet trial but she did everything I wanted her to do,” Schofield told AAP.
“She’s strengthened up a bit and she felt terrific.”
“She’s obviously a very talented horse that will be competitive in whatever she runs in.”
Rosehill trainer Gerald Ryan has nominated six fillies for the Thousand Guineas and his entries include Peggy Jean, winner of the Group 1 $1m Inglis Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on the first day of ‘The Championships’ during the Sydney Autumn Carnival.
Morphettville co-trainers Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas are looking for a second Group 1 win from Go Indy Go after the Bernardini filly won the Group 1 $400,000 Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick during the Autumn.
Gai Waterhouse has nominated five fillies for the Thousand Guineas with one of her more notable entries Nayeli kicking off her Spring Carnival campaign this Saturday in the Listed $100,000 The Rosebud (1200m) at Randwick.
Surprisingly Sydney’s premiership trainer Chris Waller has only nominated three fillies Wine Tales, Winx and Amicus who ran third last Saturday to Press Report over 1300m at Rosehill.
New training partnership of David Hayes and Tom Dabernig by far have the most number nominated with eighteen fillies among the total list.
Earthquake heads the early betting for the Thousand Guineas with Ladbrokes.com.au at $5.50 just ahead of Go Indy Go at $6.50 and Bring Me The Maid at $8 while Mossfun is marked as a $13 chance.
