Cosmic Endeavour was settled just behind the speed, on the rail in the early stages of the 2014 Tattersall’s Tiara, with Steps In Time setting the pace, and jockey Tommy Berry steered the filly off the rail coming around the final turn.

The daughter of Northern Meteor took a while to pick up the leaders, but hit the front with 100 metres left to run and was able to hold off the fast-finishing Angel Of Mercy and Avoid Lightning to take out the Group 1 event.

Berry flew back from Hong specifically to ride Cosmic Endeavour in the Tattersall’s Tiara and the in-form hoop was delighted to pick up yet another Group 1 victory in what has been a sensational season on the track.

“The feeling never goes away and it doesn’t matter how many that you ride,” Berry said.

“I am riding as good as I ever had at the moment, I am feeling great and I have Nathan and my family on my side.

“I’m not going to say that I shouldn’t get paid, but probably not as much because she travelled so sweet during the run and whatever I want to do on her she responds.

“There was a tight gap at the top of the straight and she sprinted through it and she got barged out of the way, but still had the audacity to pick it up and win.

“She makes my job easy and I have to thank Gai, Mark Newnham and the team at home.”

Tommy Berry will return from Hong Kong in just over a fortnight to continue his riding career in Sydney full time and will return to his role as the number one stable rider for Gai Waterhouse.

Waterhouse stable representative Adrian Bott said that they were delighted to have Berry back riding for the stable full-time and he paid credit to Berry’s ride on Cosmic Endeavour in the Tattersall’s Tiara.

“It is good to have him back and he produces the results in the big races,” Bott said.

“She is a very tough filly, very strong and very progressive.

“It is sort of hard to describe her and it is such a thrill to be involved in a filly such as her.

“She just keeps improving and I am sure that she will take further improvement from today.

“It was very much just one step at a time with her and we always had some nice races penciled in for her over the Brisbane Carnival and Gai has always had a good opinion of her.

“She just kept thriving through those races and we were very keen to bring her up here today.”

The victory was Waterhouse’s first in the Tattersall’s Tiara after finishing second with Fashions Afield in the 2007 edition of the race.
