2014 Queen Of The Turf Stakes Tips: Solicit Can Upset Favourites

Solicit is the 2014 Queen Of The Turf Stakes tip of leading form expert Dominic Beirne and he believes that the talented filly is good value to upset the Chris Waller-trained duo of Red Tracer and Catkins in the Group 1 event at Royal Randwick tomorrow.

Catkins ($2.80) and Red Tracer ($4) are currently clear favourites in Queen Of The Turf Stakes betting markets, but Beirne told RSN that the race is far more open than the betting for the $1 million event suggests.

Solicit is dropping back in distance after finishing second behind clear Australian Oaks favourite Lucia Valentina in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens on April 5 and Beirne believes that the Street Cry filly could prove tough to beat in the 2014 Queen Of The Turf Stakes on Saturday.

“I like Solicit a lot,” Beirne said.

“Solicit is coming back from 2000 metres, which is a rhythm I quiet like, and she should be very hard to past in the straight.

“The computer has only got half a point between the top four in the market and then it has only got another length to the next three, which are bunched.

“We are thinking that the race is far more open than the market implies.

“I think that there is better value in this race away from one and three.

“Solicit is my main pick in the race.”

Catkins is chasing her maiden win at Group 1 level in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes and has been well-supported during the week after performing well in the lead-up to the feature race for fillies and mares during the 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

The Dubawi filly has scored three wins from four starts during her autumn preparation, taking out the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m), Group 3 Wiggle Stakes (1500n) and Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m), and was far from disgraced when carrying the top-weight in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m).

Red Tracer finished a narrow second behind Appearance in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes last year and trainer Chris Waller is hoping that she can bounce back from her disappointing performance on a heavy track in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 29.

Solicit is on the third line of 2014 Queen Of The Turf Stakes betting markets, at odds of $6.50, while fellow three-year-old Gypsy Diamond ($6.50) has been the marker mover for the Group 1 event.
