Leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller has almost half the Queen Elizabeth Stakes field and he has an excellent chance of scoring his second straight win in the race after winning the 2013 edition of the event with Reliable Man.

Boban is the only Waller-trained runner that is not backing up from the Doncaster Mile after he was scratched from the race due to concerns about the state of the Royal Randwick track.

The son of Bernardini made a slow start to his 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival campaign, finishing fifth in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) and fourth in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m), but returned to his best form with a win in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm on March 8 before having no luck in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 29.

Sacred Falls and Royal Descent quinelled the Doncaster Mile last Saturday and are both set to back up in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes this weekend.

Royal Descent is set to relish the step-up to 2000 metres, after performing well over staying distances during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, while Sacred Falls is unproven over 2000 metres after being beaten by It’s A Dundeel by seven lengths in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m).

Waller also has 2011 winner My Kingdom Of Fife and Doncaster Mile fourth placegetter Hawkspur in the 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes field.

It’s A Dundeel finished second behind Reliable Man in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes last year and trainer Murray Baker is hopeful that the High Chaparral entire can return to winning form in the Group 1 event this weekend.

The four-year-old has been unable to record a win since returning to the races in the Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m), but was far from disgraced when beaten by Silent Achiever in both the Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 22 and the Group 1 The BMW (2400m) at the same venue on April 5.

It’s A Dundeel has the chance to turn-the-tables on Silent Achiever, who will be chasing her fifth straight win in the Group 1 event.

The application of blinkers has worked wonders for Silent Achiever during her autumn preparation and she took out the Retina Specialists Handicap (1500m) and Group 1 New Zealand Stakes (2000m) at Ellerslie before taking out the Ranvet Stakes and The BMW in Australia.

The Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) was also considered an option for Silent Achiever, but trainer Roger James revealed yesterday that he did not want to run the O’Reilly mare over 3200 metres on a wet track.

One of the most interesting runners in the 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes final field is Gai Waterhouse-trained Carlton House, who will be Her Majesty The Queen’s first runner in the race that is named in her honor.

Carlton House took a while to acclimatize to Australian racing conditions and he did not have a race start during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, but he found his best form with second place finishes in the Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 1 and the Ranvet Stakes.

The Street Cry entire is expected to take up the running in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes and has been well-backed to record his maiden win at Group 1 level.

Rounding out the 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes field are 2012 Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon, Guy Walter-trained Toydini, imported galloper Le Roi and Caulfield Cup placegetter Dear Demi.

The 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes barrier draw will be held at Royal Randwick this evening.
