2014 Myer Classic Tips: O’Sullivan Happy To Lay Sweet Idea

Ratings expert Daniel O’Sullivan is unsure about his 2014 Myer Classic tips, but he does not rate the winning chances of talented filly Sweet Idea.

Sweet Idea performed strongly at Group 1 level in both the Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 30 and the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at the same venue on September 28 and was too good for her rivals in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) on October 18.

While O’Sullivan admits that Sweet Idea is taking very strong form into the Myer Classic, he does not believe that the Snitzel mare represents value at her current Myer Classic odds because of the expected early pressure in the race.

“The horse I don’t like in the race is Sweet Idea,” O’Sullivan told RSN.

“She is in great form and she has very competitive figures for this race, but there are few things that make me worried.

“She had a pretty easy time on the lead at Caulfield and here she is going to have to go much harder in the run.

“She has never been to a mile and from barrier one in a big field like this she will be under a bit of pressure right from the start to hold that position.”

O’Sullivan does not think that there is a great deal of value in current 2014 Myer Classic betting markets, but he has labeled Neena Rock as a mare that is a decent bet at her current quote.

Neena Rock performed well in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 13 and the Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) at the same venue on September 27 and she is taking winning form into the Myer Classic after recording her maiden Australian race win in the Group 3 Angst Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on October 11.

“The horse that I like the most in the race is Neena Rock,” O’Sullivan said.

“She brings some very strong Sydney figures here, she profiles well as being suited by genuine pace, she looks good on the map and she is a very strong closer.

“She will definitely be strong at the mile and I have her around that $7.50.

“It is hardly a price that you are going to jump out of trees for, but I think there is a small edge there.”

Neena Rock is available at 2014 Myer Classic odds of $9, while May’s Dream ($4.80) remains a narrow favourite from Sweet Idea ($5.50) and Catkins ($9.50).
