2014 Makybe Diva Stakes Tips: Dissident The Horse To Beat

Leading form analyst Adam Blencowe has Dissident on top of his 2014 Makybe Diva Stakes tips and he is confident that the four-year-old will be very hard to beat if he can reproduce his impressive performance in the Memsie Stakes.

Dissident went into the Memsie Stakes at double figure odds, but was far too strong for his competition in the final stages of the race and stormed home to record an outstanding two and a half lengths victory from Sweet Idea and Puissance De Lune.

Blencowe told RSN this morning that there is no reason that Dissident can’t repeat that performance in the Makybe Diva Stakes this weekend and is happy to back the starting price favourite in the Group 1 event this weekend.

“I thought that Dissident was just terrific in the Memsie,” Blencowe said.

“I know that Messene and Boban didn’t really run their races and on bare form the race may have fallen away a bit there, but when you really analyse what he did there it stands up to the test.

“He has put up a pretty smart performance and when you look through this field if he turns up, and there is no reason to suggest he can’t turn up and do it again, than he is going to take a world of beating.”

Blencowe rates Boban as the major danger to Dissident in the Makybe Diva Stakes, but revealed that the son of Bernardini has performed at his best just once, when he took out the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm on March 8, in his past seven starts.

“Boban is the one to do it on the figures and we still have him rated the highest miler in Australia, but he has only run that rating now one in his last seven,” Blencowe said.

“It is really d-day for Boban and he needs to stand up, but there is probably a more realistic chance of Dissident running that race.

“I expect Messene to run better and Puissance De Lune and Spillway will run well, while Fawkner is an interesting horse resuming, but I think if Dissident runs his race they will all be running for second.”

Dissident is currently available at 2014 Makybe Diva Stakes odds of $3 and is a clear favourite with Ladbrokes Australia from Boban ($4.20), Puissance De Lune ($6), Messene ($8) and Spillway ($9.50).
