The top-weight in the 2014 Doncaster Mile field is Boban, who will carry 58 kilograms with regular jockey Glyn Schofield on his back.

Boban has been set for the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick on Royal Randwick on April 19, but trainer Chris Waller elected to give him another lead-up run after he finished seventh behind Gordon Lord Byron in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 29

Waller will have six runners in the Doncaster Mile field; with My Kingdom Of Fife, Sacred Falls, Hawkspur, Royal Descent and Weary set to join Boban in the $3 million race on Saturday.

Sacred Falls has the opportunity to become the first horse to win the Doncaster Mile in back-to-back years since Pharaoh in 1995, while Weary has been one of the best-backed runners in the field after recording his maiden Australian race win in the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

Peter Moody also has a multiple runners in the Doncaster Mile field; with Lidari, Dissident and Fat Al included in the final acceptances, while Guy Walter will be represented by both Toydini and Streama who performed strongly in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) over the same track and distance during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival.

Team Hawkes-trained Messene will be making his Group 1 debut in the Doncaster Mile and is the clear favourite for the race after stringing together an impressive winning streak of seven straight victories in the past twelve months.

Messene started his autumn preparation with a win in the Listed National Sprint (1400m) in Canberra on March 9 and stamped himself as a dominant Doncaster Mile favourite with a comfortable three lengths victory in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 22.

Team Hawkes will also be represented by Ninth Legion, who earned a spot in the Doncaster Mile field by winning the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1550m) at the Randwick Kensington track at the end of last year.

No three-year-old has won the Doncaster Mile since Triple Honour took out the 2008 edition of the race, but Trent Busuttin-trained El Roca has been well-backed to end the drought of younger horses in the Group 1 event.

El Roca started his 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival campaign with a win in the Listed Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on February 15 and performed well without winning in the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m), Group 1 Royal Randwick Guineas (1600m) and Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m).

George Ryder Stakes winner Gordon Lord Byron has not been included in the 2014 Doncaster Mile field, but runner-up Speediness will be chasing his maiden win at Group 1 level in the time-honored race this weekend.

Speediness has performed consistently at the highest level of racing since the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival and has finished in the first four in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m), Toorak Handicap (1600m), Emirates Stakes (1600m) and George Ryder Stakes.

Rounding out the 2014 Doncaster Mile field are imported galloper Mouro, Ron Quinton-trained Monton, Caulfield Cup placegetter Dear Demi, Kris Lees-trained Slow Pace, Japanese mare Hana’s Gold, while Malavio and Gypsy Diamond will need a horse to be scratched to earn a start in the field.

The 2014 Doncaster Mile barrier draw will be conducted at Royal Randwick this evening.
