Fawkner was backed into Cox Plate favouritism after he scored a tough win in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on October 11 and despite drifting slightly in betting has remained a clear favourite ever since.

Criterion worked home strongly to finish second in the Caulfield Stakes and he has been the late market mover in Cox Plate betting markets.

The Sebring entire was available at Cox Plate odds of $9 earlier in the week, but there has been a wave of support for the Australian Derby winner this morning and he is now into a quote of $6 to give David Payne a maiden win in the race.

There was some early support for Aidan O’Brien-trained Adelaide when the 2014 Cox Plate field was released earlier this weekend, but the talented entire has been easy in betting markets in the last couple of days and is now out to $8.50.

Many racing experts have Sacred Falls as the highest rated horse in the 2014 Cox Plate field on the back of his win in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) and second place finish in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) earlier this year, but he has been the biggest drifter in Cox Plate betting and is out to $9.

Tasmanian galloper The Cleaner will complete a fairytale story if he is able to win the Cox Plate after he was purchased by connections for just $10,000 at the 2009 Tasmanian Magic Millions Sale.

Massive odds would have been on offer for The Cleaner to take out the Cox Plate earlier in the year, but the seven-year-old is now into $14 after taking out the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) and Group 3 JRA Cup (2040m).

Godolphin colt Sweynesse was the clear Cox Plate market mover throughout the week and he is set to start at a quote of $15 after opening at $34 in early betting, while there has been a sprinkling of support for Royal Descent ($11), Almalad ($11) and Wandjina ($31).

The 2014 Cox Plate betting market is rounded out by Side Glance ($26), Foreteller ($34), Guest Of Honour ($101) and Silent Achiever ($21).
