2014 Chelmsford Stakes Tips: Sacred Falls And Royal Descent Tough To Split

Leading form analyst Adam Blencowe has Sacred Falls and Royal Descent on top of his 2014 Chelmsford Stakes tips and he is happy to take on Entirely Platinum in the Group 2 event at Royal Randwick this weekend.

Entirely Platinum opened as a clear favourite in Chelmsford Stakes betting markets at a quote of $3, but he has drifted out to $3.50 in the last 48 hours and Blencowe expects his odds to continue to lengthen leading into the race.

Blencowe told RSN that Entirely Platinum needs to improve significantly just to be competitive at weight-for-age level in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) and is happy to lay the son of Pentire at his current odds.

“I am pretty surprised at the price of Entirely Platinum here,” Blencowe said.

“He is obviously up sharply in grade and he is promising, but he has to take a fair step forward to get involved, let alone win this.

“I expect that he will be on the improve and he has that profile and I expect him to step-up, but the $2.80 is perhaps overselling his chances and I think that he will probably drift out.”

The short price of Entirely Platinum means that there is plenty of value in the rest of the Chelmsford Stakes betting markets and Blencowe believes that the Chris Waller-trained duo of Sacred Falls and Royal Descent represent good value at their current quotes after they both performed strongly first-up in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick a fortnight ago.

“Sacred Falls is a terrific miler at Randwick and he is as good a horse as we have in the country when you look away from our sprinters and Lankan Rupee,” Blencowe said.

“He deserves to be favourite, but he might need another run.

“We didn’t really learn a lot from the Warwick Stakes when they went no great gallop and it just turned into a sprint home.

“It was effectively a high class barrier trial and he will come right on from that.

“Royal Descent hasn’t won since the Oaks, but she was pretty good first-up as well and the same could be said about Criterion and Hawkspur.

“I think that Entirely Platinum is one to oppose and I think that Sacred Falls and Royal Descent are the best two to be opposing him with.”

Entirely Platinum ($3.50) remains favourite in the Chelmsford Stakes betting market with Ladbrokes Australia from Royal Descent, while Criterion and Sacred Falls are both available at Chelmsford Stakes odds of $5.
