Southern Speed wins the Caulfield Cup

Southern Speed has won the Caulfield Cup 2011. The 4-year-old mare finished strongly to win by 1.5 lengths from Green Moon with Tullamore another half length back in third and Manighar another length away in fourth.

December Draw, the race favourite trained by Mark Kavanagh, finished last in the 24 horse field.

Lucas Cranach, another heavily backed international, had a strong run finishing fifth.

The Caulfield Cup results are as follows:

  • 1st – Southern Speed #18 (BR3) paying $10.60 for the win and $3.20 for the place.
  • 2nd – Green Moon #16 (BR13) paying $3.40 for the place.
  • 3rd – Tullamore #11 (BR11) paying $5.50 for the place.
  • 4th – Manighar #3 (BR4)
