2011 Breeders Cup Classic result and So You Think

Dual Cox Plate winner So You Think finished a gallant sixth to Drosselmeyer in the 2011 $5m Breeders Cup Classic (2000m), at Churchill Downs in Kentucky today.

Having his first start on dirt, the Aidan O’Brien trained galloper settled third on the fence behind Game On Dude and appeared to be traveling well at the home turn.

He was blocked for a run between horses at the top of the straight and switched back to the rail.

But that move by jockey Ryan Moore cost So You Think momentum and he went to the line one paced.

Drosselmeyer, ridden by Mike Smith, settled near the tail and finished best down the outside .

Smith was the man narrowly defeated aboard the previously undefeated Zenyatta (19 wins) in the Classic in 2010.

Zenyatta, having her final start, flashed home from last to be beaten a head by Blame.

Smith said the Zenyatta defeat “still hurts” but said the Drosselmeyer win was some redemption.

In victory, Smith defeated ex-girlfiend Chantal Sutherland on Game On Dude.

Sutherland was aiming to be the first female to ride the winner of the Classic.

She nearly stole the race from the front before the Bill Mott-trained Drosselmeyer’s outstanding final burst.

Mott, who was the trainer of the former champion US galloper Cigar, got the big pay out with the Classic outsider.
