1200 Metres To Suit Law In The The Run To The Rose

Trainer Chris Waller is confident that the step-up to 1200 metres will suit talented galloper Law in the 2014 The Run To The Rose at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

Law was unable to run out a strong 1200 metres when he finished at the tail of the field in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on April 5, but new trainer Chris Waller has been focused on teaching the Denman colt how to settle in the early stages of his races.

The three-year-old started his 2014 Spring Racing Carnival in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 16 and he was settled at the tail of the field by jockey Glyn Schofield before working home strongly to finish third behind Nostradamus and Washington Heights in a performance that thrilled Waller as the colt heads towards the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 13.

“He is a high quality horse,” Waller told TVN.

“Obviously we saw that in the Breeders when he won that.

“He is a good type and he is a nice, relaxed horse around the stable, but he is just getting a bit fired up in his races.

“It was good to see him switch off the other day, finish off so strongly and he will be fitter thanks to the run.

“He looks to be coming together nicely and the 1200 on Saturday will suit and then ultimately the Golden Rose over 1400.”

Law made his racing debut under the care of Gai Waterhouse in the Listed New South Wales Thoroughbred Breeders Plate (1000m) at Royal Randwick on October 5 and he was sent to the spelling paddock to being preparations for the Golden Slipper.

He started his autumn campaign with a strong win in the Adaptra Handicap (1000m) at Royal Randwick on February 8, but tired in the final stages of the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) to finish fourth before he failed to fire in the Golden Slipper.

Law is set to be joined in the 2014 The Run To The Rose field by stablemates Brazen Beau and Sniper Fire, with all three a chance to progress to the Golden Rose Stakes.

Law is currently available at a quote of $21 in the 2014 Golden Rose Stakes betting market with Ladbrokes Australia.
