1200 Metres No Issue For Husson Eagle In A.R. Creswick Series Final

Husson Eagle is yet to record a race win over 1200 metres, but trainer Patrick Payne is confident that the step-up in distance will not be a problem for the talented sprinter in the 2015 A.R. Creswick Series Final at Flemington tomorrow.

Husson Eagle has recorded two of his three race wins over 1000 metres and is yet to taste success over 1200 metres, but he finished third in the Listed Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) and fifth in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200M) over the extended trip during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival and he just missed the placings when he finished fourth in the Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on May 9.

Payne is very happy with the condition of Husson Eagle heading into the A.R. Creswick Series Final and he is confident that the son of Husson will run out a strong 1200 metres if he is ridden the right way by jockey Steven Arnold.

“With the ratings system he looks well weighted and we have worked out that he likes a bit of time between runs,” Payne told Racing Ahead.

“He is going into this race really fit and well.

“He ran fourth in Adelaide in a Group 2 and up the straight they seem to go at a reasonably steady tempo.

I think he will be ok up the straight over 1200 metres ridden right.

“I think that he will have a nice resting run wherever he is in a resting spot.

“Stevie Arnold is the perfect man for the job and he realises that the winning post is at the end of the straight.”

Husson Eagle started his winter campaign with a fast-finishing victory in the Bill Collins Handicap (1000m) at Caulfield on April 4 and he made up good ground late in the Euclase Stakes before he returned to winning form with a narrow victory over Rough Justice and Star Stealer in the A.R. Creswick Series Heat 3 (1000m).

The last start winner is currently available at 2015 A.R. Creswick Series Final odds of $3.80 with Ladbrokes and he is on the second line of betting behind the consistent Rough Justice ($3.70), while there has also been some support for  his stablemate Face Forward ($4.80), Darryl Blackshaw-trained Illustrious Lad ($7) and last start winner Our Harmony ($8.50).
