The Group 1 1000 Guineas (1600m) is set to be the major 2013 Spring Racing Carnival target for classy filly Guelph who is working towards a return to the races in September.

Along with Overreach and Miracles Of Life, Guelph is well and truly in contention for Champion two-year-old honors at the Australian Thoroughbred racing awards after a very impressive juvenile season that was highlighted by victories in the Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) during the 2013 Autumn Racing Carnival.

Trainer Peter Snowden told Racing Ahead that he has been impressed with the daughter of Exceed And Excel since she returned from the spelling paddock and said she has recovered well from her lengthy two-year-old campaign.

“She has done really well, she looks fantastic and her attitude is really good,” Snowden said on RSN.

“She has taken no ill effects from a fairly long two-year-old preparation.

“I was always mindful of that and I always made sure that I gave her time off between runs and didn’t overtax her.”

Snowden said that Guelph will compete in a barrier trial in about three weeks’ time before making her return to racing in early September with the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on September 7 a possible kick-off point.

She will stay in Sydney for the first three runs of her campaign, with the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on September 21 and Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) on October 5 also on the agenda, before travelling to Melbourne for the 1000 Guineas at Caulfield on Wednesday October 16.

Snowden has never been successful in the 1000 Guineas but won the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) with Helmet in 2011.
